During an interview with Larry King, President George H.W. Bush still tears up over the memory of losing his 4-year-old daughter, Robin, to leukemia more than 50 years ago. Barbara and I have been married for over 50 years, and I think that horrible incident drew us even closer together.
Their daughter’s death also started a lifelong commitment by George and Barbara Bush to advocate for cancer research and improved treatment. George chaired the Board of Visitors at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center and has been involved in many cancer causes. He and Mrs. Bush were the founding Chairs of C-Change, an organization that was stated in 1999 to increase communication and planning among cancer leaders in government, private industry, cancer centers and cancer advocacy and research organizations.
At the end of this video is a brief interview with former President Gerald Ford about his experience with his wife’s (Betty Ford) breast cancer.
